Get Your Creative Juices Flowing the Healthy Way
For all creative people out there, getting those creative juices flowing steadily is what fuels them to stay on top of their games. Whether you are a writer, artist, advertiser, product designer, architect, etc., you know how important it is to keep those ideas coming, for they serve as the lifeline of your career. But of the many challenges that come with being in the creative field, nothing could be as irritating as those days when your mind is blocked. Simply put, your creative well has temporarily gone out of order.
Finding yourself sidelined by yet another one of these mind-blocks could prove detrimental for your career, especially when they strike during crunch time when every drop of creative juice counts. Although common, there are a variety of reasons explaining why you are stumped, ranging from a flagging self-esteem to bad health habits you have acquired through the years. To address this problem and help your mind become more efficient and cooperative, check out these tips.
Tell your inner critic to shut up.
Your inner critic is at it again. Every time you hear that tiny voice at the back of your head that saps your enthusiasm and brings you down, shut it up immediately. Doing so raises your own spirit and boosts your confidence in the process. One very effective way you can try is to get in touch with loved ones or trusted friends who belong to your supportive social circle. Also, you can try keeping their pictures in your workstations, so all you have to do is look at them whenever you feel your confidence waning.
Indulge your inner child every once in a while.
All work and no play makes for an uncooperative, lethargic mind. Creativity is rooted in the child within. To get it to work more efficiently, you have to indulge your inner child by doing activities you find enjoyable and pressure-free every once so often. Try doing something creative and/or intellectually absorbing like doodling or solving a puzzle. Research has proven that such activities work to develop your mind in different ways. On one hand, doodling improves concentration skills. On the other hand, mind games like crosswords or sudoku puzzles sharpen specific intellectual faculties, depending on the kind of puzzle you love to work on.
Give yourself a break every now and then.
When you’re stumped, take a break. Forcing yourself would only give you a headache and does not guarantee good results. For most people, popping something into their mouths or drinking have been proven to relax their minds and get their creative juices flowing again. However, the downside to this practice would depend on whether or not what you consume or take could pose serious health risks. To keep your creative juices flowing without risking your health, take note of these precautionary health measures.
1. Instead of popping candies or chocolate, try fresh/dried fruits or unsalted mixed nuts.
2. Go easy on the coffee.
3. Drink water or fresh fruit juices instead of booze.
4. Ditch the cigarette.
Make sure that your body is well taken care of.
Your physical and mental health go hand in hand. You cannot expect your creative juices to flow smoothly if your body is running on junk food and nothing else. Nourish yourself by eating nutritious meals in the right portions. Also, it would greatly help if you get the recommended eight hours or more of sleep every night, so that your mind and body can recharge itself properly.
